Overview of Superior Schools
Superior is located just 6 miles southeast of Boulder, Colorado’s 11th most populous city. This means that there’s plenty to do in the area in terms of shopping, dining, recreation, arts, and entertainment. But an even more important element to take into account when you think about moving here is education.
Superior is located within the Boulder Valley School District and is the home of a total of four schools. There are two elementary and two secondary schools operating in the area. The top ranking schools in this part of the school district include:
- Superior Elementary School
- Eldorado K-8 School
- Monarch High School
In addition to the folks in Superior, Eldorado K-8 and Monarch High School also serve residents of Louisville, Colorado.
Overview of Louisville Schools
The City of Louisville Colorado is also located in Boulder County, right next door to Superior, and falls within the Boulder Valley School District. There are, however, more than three times as many elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools serving the residents of Louisville than there are those that serve the folks of Superior.
Among the 13 K-12 schools in Louisville, 6 are public and 7 are private. The average number of schools per 10,000 residents in Colorado is 7; Louisville is just a hair above average with 7.3 K-12 schools per 10,000 people.
The top performing schools in Louisville, Colorado in terms of educational excellence include:
- Coal Creek Elementary School
- Louisville Middle School
- Monarch High School
Focus on Monarch High School
Situated in the town of Louisville, but also serving Superior, Monarch High School is an institution known for academic excellence. The school’s motto is “One of the Nation’s Best High Schools” and it certainly lives up to that credo.
Monarch HS first opened its doors in 1998 in an effort to reduce the overcrowding at nearby Centaurus High School. Since then, Monarch has gone on to win numerous awards, both academic and athletic, and become one of the region’s leading scholastic centers.
For students who are a cut above the rest, Monarch High School offers a variety of different advanced curriculum courses. There are nearly two dozen different Advanced Placement (AP) classes and a selection of CU Succeed courses available to students who want better preparation for their post-high school education.
Monarch’s music and drama departments have also won numerous awards. They have traveled to far-off concerts in Vienna, Austria; won plenty of state competitions (the Drumline won the state championships four times–in 2004, 2008, 2010, and 2011); and placed a great many of their students into colleges and universities that further their artistic talents.
Academically, Monarch’s achievements are phenomenal. Every year they earn better than $6 million in scholarships for their graduating students. And an incredible 95% of the graduating student body goes on to attend 2- or 4-year college degree programs.
